Clayton grew up in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and died in 2004. Served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the World War II 10th Mountain Division. Joined the Division at Camp Hale, Colorado where he was assigned to the 85th Infantry Regiment. Served with the regimental headquarters company and with Company G.
